Count 60 cm per person
Each person needs about 60 cm of table edge to eat without bumping elbows. Chairs with arms need about 70 cm.

Leave room behind the chairs
Allow 90 cm from the table edge to a wall or sideboard, so a chair can slide back and someone can stand up. Where people walk behind seated guests, allow about 110 cm.
Key point Tape the table on the floor, put the chairs around it and pull them back as if you were getting up. Every piece page has a "View to scale" drawing with its exact size.
Round, oval or rectangular?
- Round: everyone faces each other and there are no corners. Best for four to six in a square room.
- Oval: seats as many as a rectangle, with softer ends where people pass.
- Rectangular: fits long, narrow dining areas, with a clear seat at each end.
Look at the base, not only the top
A central pedestal leaves room for chairs all around a round table. Legs or slabs at the ends of a long table can take the place of an end seat. Check where the base meets the floor on the "View to scale" drawing.
Standard dining height is about 75 cm, and almost all of our dining tables are 75 cm high. With chairs that have arms, check that the arms slide under the top.
